Player

Name
Please give us something to call you by. We do not require a real name.

Harg.

Age

Tell us how old you are.

25 years old. A few months away from my 26th birthday.

Location
This information is useful to check on weather status, etc.

I live just south of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States.

Computer
Please tell us as much about your computer as you are capable.

I use a Dell desktop, running 32-bit Windows Vista. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo, E6850 @ 3.00 GHz, with 3070 MB ram.

I run a second laptop on the same desk and use a multiple monitor setup. I typically keep a browser window open in addition to WoW for reference during gameplay.

Experience
Please tell us about your raiding experience. Please do not include anything before Wrath of the Lich King unless you can verify it.

I raided during BC extensively. My character Harg still has the "Champion of the Naaru" title from the questline before WoLK.

During WoLK I have also raided frequently. I raid on two different toons each week, and have run everything from Naxx 10 up to ToC 25. I am familiar with all fights, though I am admittedly less familiar with some of the later fights in Ulduar on 25 man and am still learning the last two fights in ToC 25.

Value
Please tell us, in your own words, what you feel speaks the most about a guild's quality and why you should be considered for Soul's raiding roster.

The qualities that I feel speak most about a guild are fairness, organization, and camaraderie. I feel that a guild that is incapable of organizing or being fair is a guild that hamstrings itself. Being part of a group that has a sense of teamwork and camaraderie is always a pleasure and something I look for in a guild.

Being both a dedicated player and a willing teammate, I think that I offer a favorable combination of traits in a player in joining a guild. I am capable of soloing, doing homework and research for my own benefit and working to improve my playstyle and character, as well as working within a team structure and fitting myself to new strategies and within existing teams.

Research

Reputation
How did you hear about us? Have you applied to any other guilds while applying to Soul?

I have been on the Khaz Modan server for a few years now. I have heard the name bantered about, and only decided to apply after reading the website and talking to Pri, the recruitment officer and having the opportunity to learn more about the guild in general and how I might possibly fit in.

History
What guilds have you been in previously?
Why did you leave them?

Shortly after hitting level 30 I joined Darkened Skies, my first guild. A few months later the guild split, and I followed one of the splits. I have been with Veni Vidi Vici since.

I have no bad blood or issues with Veni Vidi Vici whatsoever. I have known a number of people that bounce from guild to guild looking to correct preexisting issues or personal grievances. I am and have always been on good terms with VVV, and my desire to change guilds has only to do with their availability and my own goals.

Veni Vidi Vici is, and has always been a social guild first. This is both part of the charm, and part of the frustration at times of being a guildie under their banner. VVV has a core of raiding members, but ultimately only enough for one 10 man group. It is increasingly uncommon for their to be more than one 10 man group running any raids, and even less common for quality 25 man groups to be put together. I am quite loyal to the guild, and run with them whenever I am able. However, balancing two toons with such limited gameplay is difficult at best and impossible more often than not.

Being clear, I have no issues with my current guild in any capacity. I am quite loyal to them, and am on open terms with both guildmasters.

Character

Specification
Please give us your class, race, role, and preferred talent allocation.

Applying with: Harg, dwarf Paladin.
Secondary toon: Vinsor, Night Elf Druid.

Armory Profile
Please provide us with a link to your armory profile.

Harg – 80 Dwarf Paladin. Retribution/Protection dual spec. (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khaz+Modan&n=Harg)
Vinsor – 80 Night Elf Druid. Feral/Restoration dual spec. (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khaz+Modan&n=Vinsor)

Achievements
Explain to us your view on achievements, both raiding and extracurricular (non-raid). Tell us about some of the achievements and accomplishments you have that you feel are exemplary or worthy of mention. Do you understand that Soul is a Hard-Mode aspiring guild? What is your view on Hard Modes in general?

I have raided since early BC. From BC era, Harg still has the title "Champion of the Naaru" and progressed through SSC with some experience in BT. Harg spent most of his life as a tank in BC, but has split his time between Protection and Retribution since WoLK.

Vinsor is a much newer character and so has less raiding experience.

Outside of WoW, I practice martial arts, have a dog that I am active with, and am a full time student at a university and so spend a good amount of time studying.

Yes, I do understand that Soul is a Hard-More aspiring guild. My view on Hard-Mode encounters in general is that they are a form of progression, like any other. Whether it be improved loot, greater challenge, or just the fun of a new encounter I would find it surprising if a guild with the desire, ability, and available talent to tackle Hard-Mode content did not do so.

Please list our raid times in your own time zone, and what time you would be online and ready to go. Please list which raids you would be able to make, and which ones you might have difficulty attending

Speaking with Pri, the raids take place from 7pm-11pm server time. I work a part-time job during the week, and so 7pm is often difficult for me. Not impossible, but it has been routine for me to arrive home between 8-8:15pm.

I have discussed this ahead of time with guild and raid leaders and have thus far been accommodated without issue.

In situations like this, I typically sign on earlier in the day to ensure that my toon has all available food/flasks/repair money, etc and park him outside the scheduled instance. In this way, I ensure that the minute I log on I am at the appropriate place and ready to start.

Weekends I am generally available, can and will show up if scheduled.

Preparation
Please list what you would do to prepare for the raid. List consumables as well.

In preparation for a raid, I always ensure that I have appropriate:

- Reagents:
o Kings reagents for Paladin blessings.
o Wild Spineleaf for Druid GoTW.

- Food:
o Stamina/defense/hit/attack power/etc for Paladin.
o Spell power/spirit/haste/attack power/etc for Druid.
• Vinsor is a max-level cook, so I am able to farm and cook all of my own food before a raid. I also make myself available to anyone else that needs any cooking done for them.

- Flasks:
o Depending on role, I run flask of endless rage or stoneblood on Harg.
o Also depending on role, flask of endless rage, pure mojo, or frost wyrm on Vinsor.

Output
As far as your class allows it, please explain to us your typical ability rotation during a cut and dry encounter with little movement involved. Explain to us what keys you use to cast spells, or what add-ons you use for assistance. What do you use to move (Mouse/Keyboard).

So as to limit the length of the application, I will limit to description of my Paladin.
Due to raiding schedules and availability of joining groups in my current guild I have not played my Paladin much since patch 3.2. Because of this, I confess to not being completely up to date on my paladin theorycrafting.

Retribution Paladins have a recommended FCFS rotation, meaning first-come-first-serve. The first ability (in general) off of cooldown is used, following suit with all related abilities. Seal of command is the preferred seal as of patch 3.2, and I run judgment of light/wisdom depending on circumstance and raid needs.

I use a host of addons, including Dominoes, Clique, Grid, xperl, OmniCC (for managing cool downs and spell rotations), and PallyPower for buffs.

I use a combination of keys and mouse to move, depending on situation. In a fight with little to no motion, I keep my hands focused on spell rotation and move with keyboard. For a situation that calls for more movement, I have a modified setup that allows me to move with a mouse as needed

Statistics
Please provide some sort of metering measure to show us your ability. This can be any measure of information including WWS, DeJaWoW, WowMeterOnline, World of Logs, Recount (Screenshots only). A measurement of some kind is absolutely mandatory.

Please use http://www.tinypic.com or photobucket to post your images.

This measurement was taken as-is. Other than casting blessing of might, I took no preparations. All present buffs were from my last log-in.

Consistency
Do you understand that you are expected to raid even when you get tired of the content? You will not be allowed to step social and then back again simply because of waiting on new content to be released.

Of course. I would assume this is implied.

Evaluation
Hypothetical Question: Why are other people beating you in performance?

Better gear, smarter rotation, better class knowledge, superior mechanics, better familiarity with fights, or a combination of all of the above.

Hypothetical Question: Is this acceptable?

It is acceptable inasmuch as while I am trying to be the best I can be, other people are doing the same. If I were routinely better than everyone else it would defeat some of the purpose of the game. In this sense, yes, it is acceptable. Not only acceptable, necessary as a motivating factor to continue to work to stay ahead of competing class members.

In the sense that I develop a lazy or complacent attitude about improving my character, knowledge, and gameplay, this would not be an acceptable result.

Hypothetical Question: What can be done so that they are not?

Study my class, theorycrafting, grinding to improve gear, planning and experimenting with new rotations, talking with similar classes and specs for new ideas and advice, taking advantage of class leads for possible recommendations or words of wisdom.

Contract

Soul is not an equal opportunity employer. We expect you to perform as you have stated in your application. We reserve the right to remove any member that does not perform up to the level of play expected.

By filling out this application, you are signing a contract that states you are capable of a certain level of play. This means you claim you are able to avoid potentially hazardous material (Flame Walls, Void Zones, Fire, etc.), you are capable of handling encounters that contain crowd-controlled targets, either as the controller or another facility in the raid, without failure. This attests that you have a good attitude, fill out this application honestly, and are prepared to do your best each night you are here.

Lastly, signature of this application attests that you are familiar with our policies and are agreeing to them.

Please fill in this check space with any keyboard character you choose to represent a signature that you understand everything posted here.
[Harg]

As a final note, I spend a fair amount of my time on Vinsor. He is on the same server, and if I need to be contacted there is an equal or better likelihood that I can be reached on that character as on Harg.

That's a unique choice. Why did you elect 3 GB instead of just slotting in 4?

I know the answer, of course. I just want to see your reasoning. I've never actually seen someone tune thier machine to that specific a detail.

Overall I am very impressed with your application.

Don't fool yourself, we're terrible. Iron Council Hard Mode gave up to us out of pity - True Story.

I look forward to seeing this application advance.

The short answer is that 32-bit Windows Vista and 4 GB RAM don't add up together very well.

The long answer is that I started playing WoW on a Dell laptop that I purchased when Doc Martins were still cool shoes. With all video settings turned down to the bare minimum and no other programs running, I could only play for 2 hours at a stretch before it would overheat. It eventually committed suicide out of spite and forced me to buy a new machine. I cried a little.

I actually salvaged the laptop though, and it is still alive. It doesn't function for much other than using a browser or running torrents, but it's useful for checking thottbot or (insert site here) while in-game.
